EAFC – A brief history

One of the oldest game series is still going strong, as EAFC has taken over the legacy of the ultra-popular FIFA games in the past. With the release of EAFC 24, Electronic Arts changed the title from FIFA to EAFC after negotiations fell apart with the international football association FIFA about the usage of their name.

The Genesis of EAFC:

As FIFA emerged as a gaming juggernaut in the 1990s, the inception of Ultimate Team marked a revolutionary leap forward. Introduced in FIFA 09, Ultimate Team allowed players to assemble their dream teams by acquiring virtual player cards through gameplay or trading.

As already mentioned at the beginning of this article, Electronic Arts switched the popular FIFA name out with EAFC after the naming rights for FIFA was rumored to be doubling in price. The switch to the new name seems to have gone smoothly for EA, who saw a rise of 25 percent in pre-release sales for EAFC 24 compared to FIFA23. In the new game, Evolutions were introduced. A new game feature that allows users to upgrade their own favorite players.

The new concept from EA has been widely approved and has sparked a new revolution in the game, where teams and meta players are now very much different than what they used to be. EA added the opportunity to spend points in order to buy the evolutions and thereby opened up a new and more transparent way to upgrade your team instead of buying packs.
