The festive fixtures are finally behind us, and the Premier League table is taking shape. With the busy December schedule separating the contenders from the pretenders, EA Sports has officially revealed the eight nominees for the Premier League Player of the Month (POTM) for December.
Manchester City dominates the shortlist with three nominees after a flawless festive run, but the story of the month arguably belongs to a revitalized striker at Elland Road.
Here are your eight nominees and why they deserve your vote.
The Nominees
Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Leeds United)
- The Frontrunner? In a stunning return to form, DCL was arguably the best striker in Europe last month. He scored 6 goals in 5 matches, finding the net in every single game Leeds played in December. His goals spearheaded an unbeaten run for the Whites, including a massive 3-1 win over Chelsea.
Hugo Ekitike (Liverpool)
- Anfield’s New Favorite: Ekitike has truly arrived at Liverpool. The Frenchman bagged 5 goals and 1 assist in December, helping Arne Slot’s men navigate the month unbeaten. His movement and finishing were pivotal, earning him the club’s internal Player of the Month award earlier this week.
Erling Haaland (Manchester City)
- The Inevitable: It was business as usual for the robot. Haaland scored 5 goals in 5 games, including a brace against Crystal Palace. During this run, he also broke into the Premier League “100 Club” in record time. He is hunting for his second POTM award of the season.
Rayan Cherki (Manchester City)
- Midfield Magic: The summer signing is settling in perfectly. Cherki was the creative engine for City, registering 4 assists and 1 goal. His highlight of the month was an outrageous rabona assist for Phil Foden against Sunderland that is already a Goal of the Season contender.
Phil Foden (Manchester City)
- The Spark: Foden was everywhere in December. He started the month with a brace against Fulham (including a long-range screamer) and added goals against Sunderland and Palace. His partnership with Cherki and Haaland has made City’s attack look unstoppable.
Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa)
- Reliable as Ever: Watkins continues to be the focal point of Unai Emery’s attack. His consistent goal contributions kept Villa firmly in the top-four conversation during a grueling run of fixtures.
Morgan Rogers (Aston Villa)
- Breakout Star: Rogers joins his teammate on the shortlist after a dazzling month. His ability to drive the ball forward and link play has made him one of the most exciting young talents to watch in the league right now.
Harry Wilson (Fulham)
- The Cottagers’ Talisman: Fulham had a rollercoaster month (including that wild 5-4 loss to City), but Wilson was a constant bright spot. His delivery from set-pieces and threat from distance have earned him a deserved spot among the league’s elite this month.
