Yes, your FC 27 pre-order ICON will be upgraded. EA says the Debut ICON turns into its Champion version during Black Friday, and the purchase terms promise it by 30 November 2026 at the latest.

  • Who has one: everyone who pre-ordered the Ultimate Edition by 31 August, plus all Ultimate Plus owners.
  • What you got: one random Debut ICON rated 85 or 86, out of a pool of 18.
  • When it upgrades: Black Friday week. Black Friday is Friday 27 November, and the hard deadline is Monday 30 November.
  • What you have to do: nothing. Keep the card in your club and it upgrades by itself.

When does the Debut ICON upgrade?

EA’s Season 1 article says your Debut International ICON “will later upgrade into its Champion International ICON version during Black Friday”. The small print on EA’s buy page adds the deadline: the item will be upgraded “by November 30, 2026”.

EA has not given an exact day or time yet. Black Friday content in Ultimate Team usually starts a day or two before the Friday, so we expect the upgrade somewhere between Thursday 26 and Monday 30 November. Treat any earlier date as a rumour until EA confirms it.

How to make sure your ICON upgrades

  1. Open the pack. If you never did, it is still waiting in Ultimate Team, Store, Pack Storage.
  2. Keep the Debut ICON in your club.
  3. Do not use it in an SBC and do not quick sell it. A card that is gone from your club has nothing to upgrade.
  4. Log in during Black Friday week and check the card in your club.

Is it worth keeping?

We think yes, for almost every pull. An 89 to 91 ICON in late November is still one of the best cards most players will own at that point, and it is free. Even a Debut ICON that is not in your team now is worth more as a Champion than as SBC fodder today.

EA also says Champion ICONs will join the normal Ultimate Team player pool later in the year. Until then, the pre-order upgrade is the only way to get one.

Everything else coming in Black Friday week is on our FC 27 Black Friday page, and every campaign EA has announced is in Confirmed Upcoming Promos in FC 27.
