FC 27 Max 88 Hero SBC: Every Player, Your Odds and a Pull Checker

The Max 88 Base Hero Upgrade SBC went live in FC 27 Ultimate Team on Monday 2 November and costs about 161,000 coins to complete. It gives you one Base Hero rated 88 or lower from a pool of 80 players, from 2.7 million coin Blaise Matuidi down to 33.5K Oliver Bierhoff. Max 88 Hero SBC: cost and how it works

The SBC is a single squad with a requirement of 140,000. That number is not the coin price: filling the squad with the cheapest fodder cost about 161,000 coins on launch night. The reward is one untradeable Max 88 Base Hero pack.

The refresh means you get a second go from Thursday evening, before the SBC expires on Sunday.

What is new compared with the Max 87 SBC

The pool is the Max 87 pool plus 18 new Heroes rated 88: Di Natale, Paulo Futre, Sneijder, Okocha, Kompany, Tévez, Ricardo Carvalho, Forlán, Francescoli, Fàbregas, Lizarazu, Mascherano, Márquez, Laudehr, Keßler, Zamorano, Milito and Litmanen. That takes it from 62 to 80 players.

The new names do not all help you. Di Natale (1.69M) is the only new jackpot, and six more are lucky pulls. But Zamorano, Milito and Litmanen are all under 100K, so they land in the robbed group. The SBC also costs more: about 125K for the Max 87 version in October, against about 161K now.

Your odds: how often do you win?

EA does not publish the odds for each Hero, so we assume every player in the pool is equally likely. On that basis, this is how the 80 Heroes split up:

• Jackpot (1.1M+): 4 Heroes, a 5% chance. Matuidi, Ramires, Di Natale and Stam.
• Lucky (390K to 1.1M): 17 Heroes, about 21%.
• Middle of the pack (170K to 390K): 17 Heroes, about 21%.
• Unlucky (100K to 170K): 14 Heroes, about 18%.
• Robbed (under 100K): 28 Heroes, about 35%.

40 of the 80 Heroes (50%) are worth more than the roughly 161K coins it costs. That is a bit worse than the Max 87 SBC (55%), and more than a third of the pool is under 100K. The Hero is untradeable anyway, so only do it if you want a Hero for your team.

The best pulls to actually play with

Price is not everything, because you can’t sell the card. A few cheaper Heroes are very good in game:

• Javier Mascherano 88 CB (274K) and Rafael Márquez 88 CB (202K) are both listed as centre backs now, with 89 and 90 defending and strong physicals. Either is a great pull for your back line.
• Simone Laudehr 88 CM (173K) is an all-rounder with 85 pace, 85 dribbling and 82 defending. A box-to-box midfielder for not much.
• Nadine Keßler 88 CM (147K) has 88 passing and 87 dribbling, and is one of the cheapest 88s in the pool.
• Diego Milito 88 ST (94K) and Iván Zamorano 88 ST (95.5K) count as robbed on price, but both have 88+ shooting and 4 star weak foot. A Serie A or Liga team will get plenty out of them.

The weakest pulls are the cheap strikers at the bottom: Bierhoff, Pizarro, Kanu and Cahill are all under 40K and hard to fit into a meta team.

Is the Max 88 Hero SBC worth it?

Yes, if you want a Hero for your team and can afford to lose the coins. Half the pool beats the 161K you pay, one pull in four is a real win, and most of the new 88s are playable cards. If you only care about coins, skip it: the card is untradeable, and 28 of the 80 Heroes are worth less than 100K.

Road to the Knockouts is expected on Friday 6 November, which usually means extra fodder demand. We would do it once now, and decide on the second go after the Thursday refresh.
