The wait is almost over for the Classic XI Heroes upgrade. Tonight at 19.00 CET these cards will officially transform into Team of the Year Honourable Mentions. We now have the exact details on how the stats will be applied and it is good news for almost everyone who has one of these items in their club.

The General Upgrade Rule

The upgrade formula is simple and generous for the majority of the squad. Every single Classic XI Hero is receiving a +2 Overall boost pushing them from an 88-rated card to a 90-rated card.

For nearly every player this overall boost comes with a blanket +2 upgrade to every single face stat. Whether you have Claudio Marchisio Diego Forlán or Dirk Kuyt you can expect every attribute on the card to jump by two points. This blanket upgrade makes cards like Zé Roberto and Blaise Matuidi look incredibly dangerous as they enter the 90 club with well-rounded stats across the board.

The Vincent Kompany Exception

There is one notable exception to this rule and unfortunately it affects the most popular player in the selection. Vincent Kompany will still receive the +2 Overall boost taking him to a 90 rating just like the rest of the team.

However EA has adjusted his specific stat upgrades. While his Passing Dribbling and Physical stats will receive the standard +2 boost his Pace and Defending will only increase by +1.

This means Kompany will not be quite as fast or dominant defensively as a full +2 upgrade would have made him but he remains one of the premier center backs in the game. Even with the slightly reduced boost a 90 rated Kompany with upgraded physicals will be a mainstay in many backlines during Team of the Year.
