EA SPORTS FC 26 update v1.0.4 is now live for PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, with the update coming soon to Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. The patch introduces several key gameplay adjustments, fixes, and quality-of-life improvements that directly address some of the most discussed issues in the community since launch.

What’s new in v1.0.4

The update focuses on fixing physical duels, goalkeeper responsiveness, and a few bugs affecting both Ultimate Team and Career Mode.

Main gameplay changes:

  • Fixed cases where players could not perform Physical Tackles, especially when using specific PlayStyles like Bruiser.
  • Kick-off defending reverted in Authentic Gameplay to its previous state after the temporary change from patch 1.0.2. Competitive gameplay remains unchanged.
  • Finesse Shots no longer curl in the wrong direction or accidentally trigger Trivela Shots.
  • Improved consistency for blocking animations, so defenders no longer pull out of a block too early.
  • Goalkeeper improvements:
    • Better responsiveness and save timing
    • Fixed cases where keepers didn’t face the ball after making a save
    • Enhanced auto-positioning when claiming crosses

Ultimate Team changes

  • Matches are now played at night when the Stadium Shadow option is disabled.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented certain Evolutions from displaying correctly in menus.

Clubs and Career Mode

  • Clubs: Fixed instances where players received a connection to lobby lost error when searching for a League Match.
  • Career Mode:
    • Contract extension discussions now appear correctly in the Central Hub.
    • Fixed an issue preventing managers from interacting with transfer offers when players requested a transfer.

General, Audio, and Visual updates

  • Added Game Type information to the pre-match screen in Kick-Off.
  • Fixed resolution changes not saving correctly on PC.
  • Addressed multiple stability and performance issues.

Why the kick-off change matters

EA confirmed that the temporary kick-off tweak from v1.0.2 was a stopgap to improve defending quickly. With v1.0.4, Authentic Gameplay has now reverted to its intended format, preserving immersion and realism for players who prefer true-to-football experiences.
