If you feel like EA Sports FC 26 is fighting you at every turn this week, you aren’t alone. Between the “Data Mismatch” errors and the confusing Evolution requirements, the Future Stars promo has been a minefield.
But the biggest frustrations right now are solvable – if you know the workarounds. We’ve dug into the game code and community testing to bring you the fixes for the Icon Swaps Chip Shot objective, the Youth Cup entry bug, and the Academy Evolution math.
Here is how to stop wasting your time and start unlocking rewards.
1. The Icon Swaps “Chip Shot” Fix
You’ve likely hit this wall already: You are grinding for the Icon Swaps tokens, you score a perfect chip shot, and the objective counter stays at 0/6.
The issue isn’t that the game is “broken” (well, not entirely), but that the objective tracking is incredibly specific about what constitutes a chip shot.
The Fix: The “Over the Keeper” Rule Most players try to “cheese” this objective by sweating the ball across the box for an empty net tap-in, pressing L1/LB + Shoot to force a chip animation. This does not count.
For the objective to register, the game logic requires the ball to physically travel over the goalkeeper’s body.
- Do: Wait for the keeper to rush you, then chip it over them.
- Don’t: Pass to a teammate for an open goal chip.
- Pro Tip: Some community testing suggests holding
L1/LB+Shootuntil the ball crosses the line ensures the “Chip Shot” tag remains active in the game code during the goal event.
2. The Future Stars Academy: Don’t Brick Your Card
The Future Stars Academy offers a chance to build a 90-rated club legend, but the “Chain Evolution” system is a logic puzzle. If you do the upgrades in the wrong order, you will “brick” the card – locking it out of the best upgrades permanently.
The Math: Skills First, Stats Last The trap lies in the Overall Rating (OVR) Caps. Many of the best “Technical” Evolutions (which grant PlayStyle+, Skill Moves, or Weak Foot upgrades) have a requirement of Max 88 OVR.
- The Mistake: If you apply the Academy Stat Boost first, your player might jump to 89 or 90 OVR immediately. This makes them ineligible for the Skill Move or PlayStyle+ upgrade you planned to use next.
- The Correct Path: Always apply the “Utility” upgrades (Skill Moves, Weak Foot, PlayStyle+) first, while the card’s rating is still low (82-86). Save the massive “Stat Boost” or “Club Legend” Evolution for the final step.
Rule of thumb: Check the “Requirements” of step 3 before you complete step 1.
3. The Youth Cup “Entry Limit” Warning
This is the most critical warning for the week. The Future Stars Youth Cup is the only way to unlock the 2nd Evolution Contract, allowing you to upgrade a second player.
The in-game menu suggests a standard refresh, but players are reporting a hard cap of 6 entries total for the entire objective duration.
The Strategy: Stop and Wait If you have played 3 games and lost 2 of them, stop playing immediately.
- If you consume all 6 entries and fail to get the required wins, you are currently mathematically locked out of the reward.
- There is a high probability EA will issue a “make-good” refresh or patch the daily limit in the coming days due to the backlash.
- The Risk: If you burn your entries now, you might not get them back even if EA fixes the bug for others. Save your entries to ensure you are eligible for any upcoming fix.
