Ángel Di María’s latest Flashback Squad Building Challenge (SBC) card has landed in FC 26, bringing a wave of nostalgia and a unique set of attacking attributes to Ultimate Team. Primarily a Right Midfielder (RM) and Right Winger (RW), this card offers a fantastic blend of technical ability and attacking flair, but its meta-relevance comes with a few key considerations.

The Engine Room: Pace, Dribbling, and PlayStyles

The card’s most immediately apparent strength is its technical prowess. While the raw Pace stat is solid, adding a Hunter chemistry style is highly recommended to maximize his attacking potential, giving him the necessary burst to dominate the wide channels and transition quickly into the box.

His close-control dribbling is exceptional. The 5-Star Skill Moves combined with an elite Dribbling stat (in the high 80s) ensures quick, responsive movements. Notably, his left-stick dribbling feels smooth and incredibly agile, allowing him to weave through defenders in tight spaces. The inclusion of the Technical+Technical+ PlayStyle is a major asset, providing a boosted Controlled Sprint for bursts of speed and precision in his turns. Furthermore, the standard Trickster PlayStyle is a welcome addition, unlocking the full range of creative flicks and skill maneuvers.

Attacking Output: Shooting and Positioning

Di María’s offensive positioning is excellent, consistently making the proper attacking runs – especially when used as an Inside Forward in a formation like the 4-3-3 or the wide 4-2-3-1.

His Shooting stats, sitting in the mid-80s, might not look elite on paper compared to some top-tier cards, but they are perfectly usable. The key here is the current Precision Shooting mechanic in FC 26. When utilized correctly, his finishing is more than adequate, compensating for a slightly lower base rating and his 3-star weak foot. Crucially, the Finesse Shot PlayStyle makes him a serious threat when cutting inside from the right flank onto his stronger left foot.

The Playmaking Maestro

While Di María lacks the highly sought-after ‘Tiki Taka’ PlayStyle, his high passing attributes (especially Vision and Short Passing) and other unique PlayStyles allow him to function as an elite playmaker. The Incisive Pass PlayStyle dramatically boosts his through-ball quality, threading the needle to a central striker. The Inventive PlayStyle is also a great bonus, giving his crosses from the wider areas an extra layer of danger and accuracy.

The Flaws: Linkability and Position Versatility

The biggest obstacle to utilizing this Flashback card is undoubtedly chemistry linkability. Being from the Liga Profesional de Fútbol (LPF) and playing for Rosario Central, he relies heavily on Argentinean and LPF links, which can make fitting him into a top-tier squad challenging without soft links like fellow Argentine stars (e.g., Messi).

A second, less critical flaw for the meta is the lack of a CAM position secondary option. While he excels in the wide roles (RM/RW/Inside Forward), the absence of a CAM position limits his deployment in the popular 4-2-3-1 (narrow) formation, reducing his overall tactical flexibility.

Final Verdict

The Flashback Di María is an incredibly fun and highly effective card in-game. His combination of 5-star skills, excellent dribbling, crucial attacking PlayStyles (Technical+Technical+, Finesse Shot, Incisive Pass), and a strong left foot make him a fantastic offensive weapon, especially on the right side. The only major caveat is the complex chemistry requirement. If you can integrate him into your team without sacrificing too much chemistry, he is a worthy addition.

A phenomenal in-game player whose sole major drawback is the challenging chemistry required to get him onto full boost.
