Tonight in FC 27: Base Hero Player Pick SBC Is Live, Plus a Free Witching Hour Evo

A Base Hero Player Pick SBC is live in FC 27 Ultimate Team. EA released it at 6pm UK / 7pm CET on Sunday 25 October, and it lets you choose one of four Base Heroes: Rui Costa (87 CAM), Park Ji-sung (86 LM), Henrik Larsson (86 ST) or Luis Hernández (86 ST). It costs about 258,000 coins. The night also brings a free midfield evolution called Witching Hour, two league upgrade SBCs, a cheap Scary Candy challenge, and the Feral Strength Flash Rush is now fully live with 190 Ultimate Scream Tokens on offer.

Base Hero Player Pick: the four options

The pick gives you one untradeable Base Hero from four, and you see all four before you choose. That makes it a safe SBC compared with last week’s Max 87 Base Hero Upgrade, where you could pull anyone from a pool of 62.

Base Hero Player Pick options

Player	Rating	Pos	Nation	Status
Rui Costa	87	CAM (alt CM)	Portugal	Live
Park Ji-sung	86	LM (alt RM, CM)	Korea Republic	Live
Henrik Larsson	86	ST	Sweden	Live
Luis Hernández	86	ST	Mexico	Live

Park Ji-sung is the community favourite. He is the only all-rounder of the four: 85 pace, 78 defending and 81 physical with Explosive acceleration, so he works as a box-to-box CM as well as on either wing. About 60% of the community votes on the pick go to him, with Rui Costa second at around 30%. Rui Costa is the pure playmaker (88 passing, 4-star skills and weak foot), while Larsson (88 shooting) and Hernández (89 pace) are both strikers with modest passing.

Is the Base Hero Player Pick worth it?

• Cost: about 257,870 coins on the cheapest route at 10:30pm CET (200,000 SBC points)
• Requirements: one squad, minimum rating 45 for eligible players
• Expires: in 14 days (Sunday 8 November)

Verdict: buy the card instead, unless you are sitting on fodder. All four Base Heroes are cheaper on the transfer market than the SBC, and the market version is tradeable while the pick is not. The SBC only makes sense if you already own a big pile of 84 to 86-rated untradeables that you cannot sell anyway. Hero prices also tend to drop when a new pick or upgrade SBC floods the market with more copies, so there is no rush with 14 days on the clock.

Tonight in FC 27: Star Performers Batch 2 Is Live, Plus an Emre Mor SBC

New evolution: Witching Hour

Witching Hour has three levels and takes four games, two of them wins (Squad Battles on Semi-Pro or higher counts). Levels 1 and 2 add agility, reactions, dribbling, stamina, short passing, balance, ball control and composure. At level 3 you choose your spell:

• Hex Shot: +1 weak foot, +6 positioning, finishing, shot power and long shots, plus the Gamechanger PlayStyle
• Hex Pass: +1 skill moves, +6 vision, crossing, long passing and curve, plus the Incisive Pass PlayStyle

For most players Hex Shot is the pick. The extra weak-foot star is worth more than any single stat boost, and Gamechanger suits an attacking midfielder who arrives late in the box. It is free and quick, so it is worth doing on any cheap CM or CAM that fits. It runs for 10 days. See every active evo in our FC 27 evolutions hub.

Two league upgrade SBCs and Scary Candy

• Premier League & Barclays WSL (about 17,400 coins): two challenges built around Premier League and WSL bronze and silver items, each rewarding Max 85 Gold Players Packs. Repeatable, 7 days.
• LALIGA & Liga F (about 12,900 coins): the same structure for the Spanish leagues. Repeatable, 7 days.
• Scary Candy (about 4,450 coins): one challenge for a Mixed Players Pack. 3 days.

These are fodder recyclers rather than must-dos. Do them if you have spare league bronzes and silvers in your club; buying the whole squad rarely pays off for a Max 85 pack.

Feral Strength Flash Rush: 190 Scream Tokens

The Feral Strength Flash Rush that started on Saturday is now fully live, with 190 Ultimate Scream Tokens in total, 50 SP and two loan cards: Tahith Chong for scoring two goals with a defender, and Castello Lukeba for three assists. It runs until Tuesday 27 October. With Phantom Playgrounds and the Puzzle Completionist set also open (100 tokens each), you can now get close to the 800-token Team 1 Guarantee Pack from objectives alone. See what to buy in our Ultimate Scream token store guide.

SBC prices tonight

Fodder keeps climbing. Woltemade has gone from about 53K on Friday to almost 70K, and the Base Hero Pick will only push 84 to 86-rated cards up further. If you plan to do Mor or Woltemade, do them sooner rather than later. The Max 87 Base Hero Upgrade and the Assane Diao SBC have now expired. All verdicts are in the FC 27 SBC hub.
