The Team of the Year promo has officially arrived in FC 26, bringing with it some of the most powerful cards we will see all season. Among the heavy hitters is the 96-rated Erling Haaland, a card that poses a massive question for the community. After a few underwhelming special items earlier in the cycle, is the Manchester City striker finally “back” to his terrifying best?
Players have debated whether Haaland’s previous Player of the Month and Champions League versions were truly meta. They often lacked the explosive pace or elite dribbling needed to compete with the likes of Kylian Mbappé or Ronaldo Nazario. This TOTY version promises to change that narrative with massive stat boosts and a crucial upgrade to his skill set.
Profile and Stats

Erling Haaland’s TOTY item is a statistical monster. Standing at 6’5″, he boasts a physicality that few defenders can match. The headline upgrades are significant:
- Pace: 93
- Shooting: 96
- Physicality: 93
- Dribbling: 90
- Passing: 83
Crucially, EA has upgraded him to a 4-star Skill Move and 4-star Weak Foot combination. This is a massive improvement over his previous 3-star versions, opening up new attacking angles that were previously impossible.
PlayStyles and Roles
The PlayStyle selection on this card defines his meta viability. He comes equipped with three PlayStyle+ abilities:
Rapid+,
Low Driven Shot+, and Enforcer+.
The
Rapid+ is the game-changer here, allowing him to reach top speed almost instantly. Combined with Enforcer+, he becomes a nightmare for defenders to dispossess. His silver PlayStyles include Finesse Shot, Chip Shot, Power Shot, Precision Header, and Acrobatic, giving him a versatile finishing kit.
In terms of roles, Haaland is incredibly versatile. He possesses the double plus (++) proficiency for Poacher, Advanced Forward, and Target Forward, ensuring he makes intelligent runs regardless of your tactical setup.
On the Pitch
When you get Haaland into a match, the first thing you notice is the “freight train” effect. With an Engine Chemistry Style, which is widely recommended to boost his agility, balance, and pace, he feels significantly more responsive than his earlier iterations.
Pace and Physicality
The combination of 99 Sprint Speed (with Engine) and the
Rapid+ PlayStyle allows him to blow past defenders in a straight line. Unlike previous versions that felt sluggish, this Haaland has genuine breakaway speed.
His physicality is arguably the best in the game. With 96 Strength and the Enforcer+ PlayStyle, he can bully elite defenders like Virgil van Dijk and William Saliba. You can shield the ball effectively, push center-backs off their line, and create space simply by existing. He bodies opponents with ease, making him perfect for players who prefer a physical striker over a nimble dribbler.
The Finishing Masterclass
Shooting is where this card justifies its price tag. With 99 Attack Positioning and 98 Finishing, he rarely misses. The
Low Driven Shot+ is lethal inside the box, and his 4-star Weak Foot makes him reliable from difficult angles.
Whether you are hitting finesse shots, power shots, or simple tap-ins, Haaland is clinical. He offers a level of consistency that few other strikers can match. If you get him the ball in the box, it is almost guaranteed to be a goal.
Dribbling Limitations
This is the area that usually splits opinion. While he received a massive +7 boost to dribbling, taking him to 90, he still lacks the “sticky” feel of players like Claudia Pina or Ousmane Dembélé. He does not have the Technical or First Touch PlayStyles, which means you cannot dribble through entire teams with the left stick.
However, he is far from clunky. The upgraded agility and 4-star skills allow for effective step-overs and sharp turns. As long as you keep your dribbling simple and use his body to protect the ball, he is more than capable. His passing is serviceable for link-up play, decent enough for one-twos, but do not expect him to be a playmaker.
Comparing the Elite Strikers
With a price tag hovering over 2 million coins, Haaland is competing against the absolute best cards in FC 26. He is a different breed of striker compared to Winter Wildcards R9 or TOTY Kylian Mbappé. Those players rely on glitchy skill moves and fluid dribbling mechanics.
Haaland offers a pure, physical alternative. If you struggle with complex skill moves and prefer a direct, powerful approach, he might actually be better for your playstyle than the traditional meta options. He dominates in the air, wins 50/50 challenges, and finishes chances that other strikers would be bullied off of.
Almost perfect
Is Erling Haaland back? Absolutely. This is the version of Haaland that players have been waiting for in FC 26. He offers a unique blend of unstoppable speed, brute strength, and clinical finishing that dominates the current meta.
While he may not feel as fluid as R9 or as glitchy as Mbappé, he is a top-tier option for anyone who can utilize his physical dominance. He is a striker who demands you play to his strengths, but if you do, he is nearly unstoppable.
