EA announced the evo on 28 October as a reward for playing both FC 26 and FC 27 (our first report). It reached accounts on Sunday morning, and the leakers posted the final upgrades just after midday.
David Luiz Evolution requirements in FC 27
Only centre backs qualify. A player who also has LB or RB as a position is locked out, so many full back hybrids can’t take it.
The pace cap of 85 and the overall cap of 82 are the two limits that rule out most popular gold CBs. The PlayStyle+ rule matters too: your player must have no PlayStyle+ yet, because the evo adds
Block+.
- Overall: max 82
- Position: CB, not LB or RB
- Pace: max 85
- PlayStyles: max 7, PlayStyles+: 0
David Luiz Evolution upgrades, level by level
The evo has three levels. Levels 1 and 2 are the same for everyone. At level 3 you choose one of three options. Each level is unlocked by playing matches with the player in your squad.
| Level | Upgrades (cap) | PlayStyle | To unlock |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | +15 OVR (85), +20 Interceptions, Def. Awareness, Sliding Tackle (85), +20 Stamina (83), +20 Aggression (82) | Play 2 matches | |
| 2 | +15 Acceleration and Sprint Speed (78), +20 Heading Acc. (84), +20 Standing Tackle (85), +20 Jumping and Strength (83) | None | Play 1 match |
| 3 | Pick one option (see below) | Depends on option | Play 1 match |
Level 3: which David Luiz path should you pick?
EA built the paths around three moments in Luiz’s career: the free kick at the 2014 World Cup, the 2012 Champions League final and his Copa Libertadores win with Flamengo. In game they show up as three options at level 3.
| Option | Upgrades (cap) | PlayStyle | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| A: shooting | +20 Shot Power (82), +20 Long Shots (83), +30 FK Accuracy and Curve (86), +20 Composure (82) | Dead Ball | Free kick takers, fun picks |
| B: defending and passing | +20 Vision (83), +20 Short and Long Pass (82/83), +20 Standing and Sliding Tackle (86) | Long Ball | Most players |
| C: pace and physical | +15 Acceleration and Sprint Speed (79), +20 Jumping and Strength (84), +20 Aggression (83) | None listed | Slow, tall CBs |
Our pick: option B. It is the only option that raises tackling again (to 86) and adds Long Ball, so your CB can start attacks with long passes over the top. It also lifts passing to a usable level.
Option C adds little pace on top of level 2 (the cap only moves from 78 to 79), so it is mainly for a CB who needs more Jumping and Strength. Option A adds nothing a centre back needs, unless you want a Luiz-style free kick taker for fun.
Which players fit the David Luiz Evolution?
The OVR cap is the key: you get +15 OVR up to 85, so a lower rated CB gains far more than an 82. A 76 rated CB can end at 85, while an 82 only gains three points. Low rated cards with good base defending and height make the best targets.
- Fikayo Tomori (Milano FC): FutSheriff shared his evolved card at 85 CB with 85 pace, 85 defending and 84 physical, plus
Block+. - Mario Gila and Solet: The FUT Accountant named them, with Tomori, among the CBs whose prices rose before the drop because they were expected to fit.
- Álvaro Carreras: out. He did not rise in price before the drop, and the LB rule now explains why.
Check your club first. Any untradeable CB rated 82 or lower is free fodder for this evo, and you can only use it once.
How to start the David Luiz Evolution
- Open Evolutions and go to the Rewards section.
- Pick an eligible centre back from your club.
- Play 2 matches with the player for level 1, then 1 match each for levels 2 and 3. Any mode works and you don’t need to win.
- Choose option A, B or C at level 3.
Like every evo in FC 27, the player becomes untradeable once you start, and you can’t use him in SBCs while the evo is running.
A few players said on X this morning that the evo could not be previewed or vanished from their Evolutions list after they claimed it. EA has not commented on it so far. If it happens to you, try restarting the game.
Should you buy a player for the David Luiz Evolution?
The FUT Accountant’s advice before the drop was to sell into the hype rather than buy, since only Club Members get the evo. Prices of fitting CBs usually drop again within a day or two.
If you have no fitting CB in your club, a cheap 75 to 79 rated gold CB without LB or RB is enough. That way you get the biggest boost for the fewest coins.
