FC 27 Switch Controls: Buttons, Joy-Con Modes and Control Schemes

FC 27 is out on both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Here are the main buttons, the Joy-Con and Pro Controller options, the four control schemes and how to find the full button list in the game. EA hasn’t published an official FC 27 button map for Nintendo, so we only list the buttons that several guides agree on, and we mark clearly what you should check yourself.

FC 27 Switch vs Switch 2: what’s different?

There’s no crossplay on either Nintendo version. You only play against other Switch players, and you need a Nintendo Switch Online membership to play online.

FC 27 Switch controls: the main buttons

These are the buttons in the Classic scheme where several guides agree. EA hasn’t confirmed them itself. They sit in the same positions as on a PlayStation controller: pass on the bottom button, shoot on the right, through ball on top and lob on the left.

Watch out: one guide says Switch players should follow the Xbox button letters instead (A pass, B shoot). The two layouts are opposite on Nintendo, so if your passes turn into shots, check the in-game button list before your first match. Sprint and the shoulder-button combinations for finesse shots, jockey and so on differ between guides, so we don’t list them until we’ve confirmed them.

How to see and change your controls in FC 27

The game has the full button list for your controller and scheme:

1. Open Settings (the cog icon) from the main menu.
2. Go to Controller Settings and choose your controller.
3. Look at the button configuration for your scheme (Classic, Alternate, Two Button or One Button). Here you can also change individual buttons.

If you have remapped buttons in the Nintendo system settings, that changes what each button does in FC 27 too. Reset them there if the in-game list doesn’t match what happens.

Control schemes: Classic, Alternate, Two Button and One Button

FC 27 on Switch has four control schemes:

• Classic: the full layout most players use, with all passes, shots and skill moves.
• Alternate: a different button layout for players who prefer it.
• Two Button: a simplified layout. Handy when two players share a pair of Joy-Con.
• One Button: the simplest layout, for casual games with friends.

For Ultimate Team and online play we recommend Classic. The simplified schemes are made for casual games.

Joy-Con, Pro Controller and handheld

You can play FC 27 on Switch with:

• A Pro Controller: the best choice for Ultimate Team. It has full-size triggers and sticks.
• Dual Joy-Con (one in each hand or in the grip): the full Classic layout.
• Handheld with the Joy-Con attached to the console.
• A single Joy-Con held sideways, with the Two Button or One Button scheme.

Split Joy-Con for two players: on the Select a Side screen, press Y and then SL and SR together on each Joy-Con. Each player picks a side and presses Ready. This works for 1v1 and 1+1 co-op without extra controllers.

Playing with friends on Switch

• Same console: connect a second pair of Joy-Con or a Pro Controller and pick sides in Kick-Off, or use Split Joy-Con.
• Local Seasons: play against someone on another Switch within about 10 metres. Both choose Local Seasons in the main menu at the same time.
• GameShare (Switch 2 only): a friend on Switch or Switch 2 nearby, or on your friends list online, can join a Kick-Off match without owning the game.
• Online: Seasons, Online Friendlies and Ultimate Team’s Rivals, Champions, Draft and Rush, all against Switch players only.
