Lag, input delay and random disconnects in FC 27 Ultimate Team are rarely just “bad servers”. EA measures your connection with three numbers (ping, jitter and packet loss) and gives you a Connection Score from 0 to 100. Here’s what those numbers mean, how to check yours, and EA’s own fixes for each type of connection problem, from the five-minute ones to the advanced router settings.
Step 1: is it the servers, your connection or your PC?
- Nobody can connect, or FUT is down: check our FC 27 server status page or @EASFCDirect first. There’s nothing to fix at home during an outage.
- Lag only online: it’s your connection. Read on.
- Stutter or slow motion offline too: it’s your PC or console, not the network. On PC, see our FC 27 PC settings and stutter fix.
How FC 27 measures your connection: ping, jitter and packet loss
Every button press in an online match travels from your console or PC through your home network and your internet provider to an EA game data centre, and back again. EA measures that trip with three numbers:
| Metric | What it measures | What you notice when it’s bad |
|---|---|---|
| Ping | How fast data gets to EA’s server and back | Delay between your button press and the action |
| Jitter | How much your ping changes during a match | Speed-up lag, visual stutter, players “teleporting” |
| Packet loss | How many data packets never arrive | Delayed actions, speed-up lag, disconnects |
Ping counts the most in EA’s score, then jitter, then packet loss. But a steady 40 ms often feels better than a ping that jumps between 15 and 60 ms. Jitter is behind most of the “the game sped up” moments players complain about.
What your EA Connection Score means
EA’s Connection Quality Report shows your personal Connection Score from 0 to 100. It’s based on the ping, jitter and packet loss from your online matches over the past 7 days, and it updates within about five minutes of a match ending. Log in with your EA account on EA Help to see it.
| Score | Rating | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 95–100 | Great | Your connection isn’t affecting your games |
| 80–94 | Good | Your connection rarely affects your games |
| 65–79 | Okay | You’ll notice disruptions more often |
| 0–64 | Poor | Your connection is likely to affect your games, often for long periods |
The report also compares you with similar players: same area, same internet provider and same network type (wired or Wi-Fi). It has a leaderboard of internet providers in your area too. If everyone on your provider scores badly, the problem probably isn’t in your home.
Rivals, Champions, Squad Battles co-op, Online Draft and online friendlies all count towards your score. The report works on every platform except Nintendo Switch.
FC 27 lag fixes: start with these
These are EA’s quick fixes for when your connection is normally fine but suddenly got worse:
- Restart your console or PC and your router. Unplug both for 30 seconds. It clears congestion and refreshes the connection.
- Stop everything else using the internet. Downloads, updates, streaming on the TV and cloud backups all compete with your match.
- Update the game. On PC, restart the EA app so pending updates download.
- Update your network driver on PC (Device Manager → Network adapters).
Fix an inconsistent connection (jitter and speed-up lag)
If your connection keeps going up and down, the cause is almost always Wi-Fi:
- Use an Ethernet cable. It’s the single biggest fix for jitter and packet loss. If you can’t, move closer to the router and away from walls and furniture.
- Use 5 GHz instead of 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. 5 GHz is faster and more stable but has a shorter range. 2.4 GHz reaches further but gives higher ping and more instability.
- Change your Wi-Fi channel if many networks are nearby. On 2.4 GHz, use channel 1, 6 or 11, because they don’t overlap.
- Turn on QoS on your router to give your console or PC priority over other devices.
We’d put the cable first by a distance. A powerline adapter is a decent backup if your router is in another room.
Fix a connection that’s always Okay or Poor (high ping)
If your score is stuck below 80, EA recommends these steps:
- Turn off your VPN. A VPN adds distance between you and EA’s data centre, which means higher ping and less stability.
- Update or replace an old router. New firmware can fix network bugs. A router that is several years old may simply be the bottleneck.
- On PC, turn off power saving on your network adapter and check your MTU settings (Control Panel → Network & Internet → adapter properties).
- Compare internet providers. If the report’s leaderboard shows another provider in your area scoring much better, that’s worth knowing before your next contract.
Disconnected from FUT Champions or Rivals?
Disconnects during matches usually come from packet loss or a short drop on Wi-Fi. A cable fixes most of them. Before a Champions weekend, run a quick Rivals or friendly match and check your score afterwards in the Connection Quality Report. If it has dropped, use the restart steps above before you start your Finals. All the Champions rewards and dates are in our FUT Champions rewards guide.
FC 27 connection guide: FAQ
How do I fix lag in FC 27?
Use a wired connection, close downloads and streaming on your network, restart your router and console or PC, and turn off any VPN. On Wi-Fi, switch to 5 GHz. Then check your Connection Score in EA’s Connection Quality Report to see if it has improved.
What is a good Connection Score in FC 27?
95 or higher is Great and 80–94 is Good. Between 65 and 79 you’ll notice disruptions more often, and below 65 your connection is likely to affect most games.
Why does FC 27 feel like it speeds up during matches?
That’s usually jitter or packet loss: your data arrives late or not at all, and the game catches up all at once. A cable instead of Wi-Fi is the most effective fix.
