To do a chip shot in FC 27, hold L1 on PlayStation (LB on Xbox) and press shoot (Circle or B) with light power. Volleys use the normal shoot button on a ball in the air, and bicycle kicks come from a flair shot (L2 or LT + shoot) on a high ball with your back to goal.
| Shot | PlayStation | Xbox / PC controller |
|---|---|---|
| Chip shot | Hold L1 + press ○ | Hold LB + press B |
| Volley | Press ○ while the ball is in the air | Press B while the ball is in the air |
| Bicycle or scissor kick | Hold L2 + press ○ on a high ball | Hold LT + press B on a high ball |
| Header | Press ○ as the cross arrives | Press B as the cross arrives |
In the clip the keeper comes flying out at the edge of the box, so a soft chip with L1 + ○ lifts the ball over him and it drops into the far side of the net. On PC with a controller, use the Xbox inputs. On keyboard and mouse the keys can be remapped, so check Settings, Controls first.
How to do a chip shot in FC 27
- Get through on goal, or at least past the last defender, so you have a second to look at the keeper.
- Wait for the keeper to come off his line. The chip only works when there is space behind him.
- Hold L1 (LB) and press shoot with light power, about one to two bars from inside the box.
- Aim with the left stick at the side of the goal you want the ball to drop into.
- Release just before the keeper reaches you or goes to ground. Too early and he simply backpedals and catches it.
How to do a volley and a bicycle kick
There is no separate volley button. Press shoot while the ball is in the air and your player can reach it before it bounces, for example from a cross, a lofted through ball, a knockdown or a rebound. The Volleys attribute decides how clean the strike is, with Finishing and Shot Power on top.
- Volley: tap ○ (B) as the ball drops. Less power keeps it on target.
- Bicycle or scissor kick: hold L2 (LT) and press ○ (B) on a ball around head height. With your back to goal you usually get a bicycle kick, side on you get a scissor kick.
- The game picks the animation. It depends on your position, body shape and the flight of the ball, so you cannot force an overhead kick every time.
When to use them
- Chip: one on ones where the keeper rushes out or is caught off his line.
- Volley: crosses to the back post, clearances that drop at the edge of the box and loose balls after a save.
- Bicycle kick: a cross that is slightly behind your striker, when there is no time to bring it down.
- Players with the Chip Shot or Acrobatic PlayStyle are the best picks for these finishes.
Common mistakes
- Chipping a keeper who stays home. If he is on his line, he has time to get back. Use a low driven or finesse shot instead.
- Too much power on the chip. Two bars or more from close range often clears the bar.
- Too little power from distance. A weak chip from outside the box is easy for a retreating keeper to collect.
- Spamming flair shots. Acrobatic finishes are less reliable than a normal volley. Use them only when the ball is too high for anything else.
- Wrong player. A centre back with low Volleys will not score bicycle kicks. Pick your best finisher.
What changed in FC 27
The inputs are the same as in FC 26, and EA’s FC 27 Gameplay Deep Dive lists no direct change to chips, volleys or bicycle kicks. The bigger change is in the air: EA says clean headers from crosses and corners need more precision, but they are more accurate when you do connect.
- Chip Shot PlayStyle: chips are faster and more accurate, and
Chip Shot+ makes them quicker still with exceptional accuracy (EA). - Acrobatic PlayStyle: better volley accuracy and access to acrobatic volley animations.
Acrobatic+ adds unique acrobatic animations (EA). - Precision Header: more accurate and powerful headers, useful now that heading is harder.
