EA has published its first FC 27 Gameplay Developer Notes, and they confirm the game’s first real gameplay changes are coming in Title Update 1.2 in mid-November. Fullbacks, offside runs, attacking AI, kick-off goals and player switching are all being adjusted.
At a glance:
- What: Title Update 1.2 (v1.2.0), the first FC 27 patch with gameplay balance changes.
- When: mid-November 2026. EA has not given an exact date yet.
- Five changes: fullback positioning, offside awareness, attacking AI, fewer kick-off goals, loose-ball switching.
- Still under investigation: high defensive lines, collisions between big and small players, some shot types and goalkeeper positioning.
- Next: a live Discord Q&A with the gameplay team on Friday 30 October.
What changes in FC 27 Title Update 1.2
| Change | What EA says it does | Why it matters | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fullback positioning | Fullbacks hold the defensive line and only track runs when there is a real threat | Fewer gaps behind your back four | Confirmed |
| Offside awareness | Attackers read the defensive line better | More onside runs from AI teammates | Confirmed |
| Attacking AI | More purposeful support runs, better use of space around the box | More passing options in the final third | Confirmed |
| Kick-off goals | Defensive line sits higher after kick-off | Harder to run straight through to goal | Confirmed |
| Loose-ball switching | Auto switch picks the player nearest the ball in set cases | Fewer “wrong player” moments in defence | Confirmed |
Fullbacks that stay at home
Wandering fullbacks have been one of the loudest complaints since launch. EA says fullbacks will now hold the line more consistently and only follow a runner when the run is a real attacking threat. EA admits the old behaviour may still show up now and then, so do not expect it to disappear completely.
Offside runs and attacking AI
Two changes help the attacking side. AI attackers will recognise the defensive line better and time their runs to stay onside. They should also make more useful supporting runs and use the space around the penalty area better.
Kick-off goals and player switching
The kick-off change targets a familiar trick: running straight through the middle from kick-off and scoring within seconds. After TU 1.2, your defensive line will sit higher at kick-off, so that direct route into the box is harder.
The switching fix is narrower. Auto switching will pick the player closest to the ball in three situations:
- after a teammate’s slide tackle
- after a headed pass
- after a shot that misses the target
This is a careful first patch, not a meta reset. Nothing here changes how fast players are, how strong shots are or how passing works. The changes target AI behaviour and a few situations that cost goals.
How FC 27 gameplay has changed in the first month
EA also shared what one month of match data shows. The short version: players are more patient than in FC 26.
| Area | What EA’s data shows |
|---|---|
| Shooting | Fewer shots, but a higher share of chances converted |
| Passing | Pass completion up, slightly fewer passes, slightly more interceptions by manually controlled defenders |
| Defending | More successful tackles as players learn manual defending |
| Formations | More formations and player roles in use than in FC 26; win rates fairly even |
EA notes that some formations are much more popular than others, especially in the higher divisions, and says it is watching that. EA also explains why it waited: it chose not to change gameplay in the first weeks so players had time to adapt, which it calls a change from earlier years.
What EA is still investigating
Three bigger topics are NOT in Title Update 1.2. EA says it is looking at them, with no promise of a change or a date:
- High defensive lines that put too much pressure on the opponent. Anyone who meets 95 depth in nearly every Rivals game will know the feeling.
- Collisions between players of different sizes and strength, where small, agile players can come out on top too often.
- The accuracy of certain shot types, together with goalkeeper positioning.
The FUT Accountant welcomed the collisions point on his stream. In his view, small agile players are too strong against tall, strong ones, but he wants better balance rather than nerfs.
EA warns that changing one system affects others, so it will adjust in small steps. For the high-pressing meta, that probably means waiting past mid-November.
FC 27 gameplay Q&A on Discord and key dates
EA asks for feedback on the official FC Discord, the Feedback Portal and the EA Forums. The Q&A is the best chance to ask about defensive lines and collisions before the patch lands.
Every FC 27 patch and the current known issues are on our FC 27 title update hub. The last patch, with no gameplay changes, is in our Title Update 1.1 patch notes. If you cannot get online on patch day, check our FC 27 server status page. More news is on our updates page.
FC 27 Gameplay Developer Notes: FAQ
When is FC 27 Title Update 1.2 released?
EA says Title Update 1.2 (v1.2.0) arrives in mid-November 2026. There is no exact date yet. EA usually announces patch day on @EASFCDirect shortly before, and we add it to our title update hub as soon as it does.
What gameplay changes are in FC 27 Title Update 1.2?
Five: fullbacks hold their position better, attackers make better onside runs, attacking AI makes more useful support runs, the defensive line sits higher after kick-off to stop quick kick-off goals, and auto switching picks the nearest player after slide tackles, headed passes and missed shots.
Is EA nerfing high defensive lines like 95 depth in FC 27?
Not yet. EA says it is investigating high defensive lines that put too much pressure on opponents, but that is not part of Title Update 1.2. Collisions between big and small players and some shot types are also only under investigation.
