FC 27 Max 87 Hero SBC: Every Player, Your Odds and a Pull Checker

The Max 87 Base Hero Upgrade SBC went live in FC 27 Ultimate Team on Monday 19 October and costs about 125,000 coins. It gives you one Base Hero rated 87 or lower from a pool of 62 players, from 2.3 million coin Blaise Matuidi down to 44K Oliver Bierhoff. The SBC asks for a single squad, and the cheapest route on fut.gg costs 124,980 coins. The reward is one untradeable Max 87 Base Hero pack.

The earlier Max 86 Hero SBC

The new SBC is not the first of its kind in FC 27. Before it came a Max 86 Base Hero Upgrade, ended on Wednesday 14 October. It cost about 85,000 coins when it came out (fut.gg), and the same squad would cost about 102K today. Its pool held 37 Heroes rated 85 or 86, all of which are also in the new Max 87 pool.

Because it was cheaper, the bar for a good pull is lower too. We use the same multiples of the SBC cost as for the 87 version:

• Jackpot (700K+): 2 Heroes, Matuidi and Ramires, about 5%.
• Lucky (240K to 700K): 7 Heroes, including Ledley King, Al Owairan and Quaresma.
• Middle of the pack (100K to 240K): 9 Heroes, such as Park Ji Sung and Luis Hernández.
• Unlucky (60K to 100K): 14 Heroes.
• Robbed (under 60K): 5 Heroes, from Dempsey down to Bierhoff.

Using today’s prices, 25 of the 37 Heroes (68%) are worth more than the 85K it cost. That makes the Max 86 SBC the better deal of the two, at least on paper. Prices are the same Tuesday-morning fut.gg prices as for the 87 pool, not the prices from launch week.

Your odds: how often do you win?

EA does not publish the odds for each Hero, so we assume every player in the pool is equally likely. On that basis, this is how the 62 Heroes split up:

• Jackpot (1M+): 3 Heroes, a 5% chance. Matuidi, Ramires and Stam.
• Lucky (350K to 1M): 13 Heroes, about 21%.
• Middle of the pack (150K to 350K): 13 Heroes, about 21%.
• Unlucky (90K to 150K): 15 Heroes, about 24%.
• Robbed (under 90K): 18 Heroes, about 29%.

In other words, 34 of the 62 Heroes (55%) are worth more on the market than the 125K you pay. That is a coin flip, and the Hero is untradeable anyway, so only do it if you want a Hero for your team.

The best pulls to actually play with

Price is not everything here, because you can’t sell the card. A few cheaper Heroes are very good in game:

• Marek Hamšík 87 CM has the highest fut.gg rating in the whole pool (90.4) but costs “only” 600K. Getting him is a win for any squad.
• Andrea Barzagli 87 CB and Ledley King 86 CB are two of the best defenders in the pool, and both are worth around 500K.
• Park Ji Sung 86 CM is worth just 238K but rates 88.9 on fut.gg, almost level with Ramires (89.0) at a sixth of the price. A great engine for the midfield.
• Uli Hoeneß 86 RM (312K) and Joe Cole 87 RW (307K) are fun wide options from the “middle” tier.

The real losers are the slow strikers at the bottom: Bierhoff, Kanu, Cahill and Pizarro are all under 50K and hard to fit into a meta team.

What creators got from their packs

The big YouTubers spent Monday night opening dozens of these packs. AuzioMF opened 50 packs for his viewers. His very first was Quaresma, worth about 350K, and a holo Ledley King showed up later on, but plenty of packs gave mid-tier names.

NickRTFM went through 30 packs, and NepentheZ told his viewers to do the SBC straight away while it was cheap.

Is the Max 87 Hero SBC worth it?

Yes, if you want a Hero and can afford to lose the coins. About half the pool beats the cost, a quarter of it is a real win, and even the “robbed” Heroes are usable link cards in the right league. If you only care about coins, skip it. The card is untradeable, so the market value is only bragging rights.

We’d do it once now while fodder is cheap and decide on the second go after the refresh. Fodder prices usually rise before a big promo, and Ultimate Scream is expected on Friday.
